The Elephant Protection Initiative (EPI) was launched in 2014 by the leaders of 5 countries: Gabon, Chad, Tanzania, Botswana and Ethiopia to promote the conservation and protection of the African elephant.
Population growth is bringing humans and elephants closer together, with consequences for their respective lifestyles: destruction of natural elephant habitats, destruction of human crops, damage to property and loss of life.
EPI has grown creating an unique alliance of 24 African countries with all members united in their determination to ensure the harmonious coexistence of people and elephants, with herds able to travel across their range, and working together towards ending ivory trade.
